West Coast Diversions:
Electrification of the West Coast Main Line, north from Crewe, was taking place at this time. On Sundays trains were diverted from Crewe via Stockport, Manchester Victoria, Bolton, Blackburn and then over the Settle and Carlisle line. These shots were taken between Bolton and Sough tunnel at the top of the climb out of Bolton.

2x50s working hard at the front of 1S57 Euston to Glasgow train near Turton

Different day, the same train crosses Wayho reservoir on Entwistle viaduct.

Again 2x50s head 1M35 the morning Glasgow to London Euston train past the site of Turton and Edgeworth station.

A peep at the West Coast Main Line.
This next group of shots were taken on the WCML south of Euxton Junction. No sign here, as yet, of the impending electrification.

A Glasgow to Euston train powered by 2 class 50's

A single '50' heading north.

English Electric '4' D316 on the up slow with atrain of coal empties, a class 25 powered freight heads north on the down fast.

A green '47' heading south.

Another green '47' going north with vans.

And another lone '50' heading south with 1A45

I think 1M27 was the Liverpool portion of a train from Glasgow to Liverpool and Manchester.
