1974/3 July and August

13th July. A class 40 on a Manchester to Holyhead service runs off the re-built and recently re-opened Brittania bridge. The road deck of what is now the A55 is still in process of construction. The A5 can be seen in the foreground. The photyograph was taken from the top of the Marquis of Anglesey Column.

2nd August. A southbound emu passes a lock on the disused Sankey Canal near Winwick. The disused canal was filled in at this point some years ago although there are some moves afoot to re-open it.

86 018 on the 09.10 glasgow to Euston

86 031 on the 11.38 Blackpool to Euston

87 013 approaching on the up 'Royal Scot' is about to pass an '86' on the down'Royal Scot' near Winwick Junction.

5th August.25 282 with a single van has just emerged from Sough tunnel between Blackburn and Bolton.

Near the same location a two car 'Cravens' set forms a Blackburn to Manchester Victoria service.

and on the same day a 'Derby' class 108 unit forms a service in the opposite direction, here crossing Entwistle viaduct.

6th August. A class 108 unit forms a service for Blackpool South at St. Annes

13th August. 50 034 has a van train for Barrow approaching Carnforth station

13th August. 25 283 rumbles over Arnside viaduct with a freight from yhe Barrow direction.

13th August. 40 o45 heads towards Barrow with a train of empty coal wagons.

M77174 leads the 11.00 Bury to Manchester Victoria at hagside level crossing between Bury and Radcliffe.
