Oldham 15th March

A Train from Manchester Victoria approaching Oldham Mumps. The site of Central station which was on this line would be about halfway to the Clegg Street overbridge in the background. Clegg Street Station on the OA&GB was roughly behind the corner of Clegg St. Goods on the left. The line of the OA&GB was roughly where the row of vans are seen.Beyond the overbridge in the background the line passes through two tunnels (opened 1847) to Werneth Station which was the original terminus of the line from the Manchester and Leeds at Middleton Junction.

And this is the portal of the tunnel taken from the platform at Werneth. Note the coat of arms
