Peterborough 1965

Summer 1965, Dave Marchant and I went over to Peterborough hoping perhaps to find the odd steam train. We had a look around the station area and the old steam shed with not a lot of luck. We went north of the town for some lineside observation and some photography. We ended up near Helpston, I think it was at the Maxey Road level crodding, where in addition to the crossing there was a footbridge. There were six tracks at this point, the two on the west side were the up and down tracks of the line to Stamford. The remaining four from east to west were: down slow, down fast, up fast and up slow. The following were some of what we saw. Much to our regret we saw not a wisp of steam all day!
